Introducing our new staff scientific member Paul van den Tempel

We are happy to let you know that, as of September 1, 2026, Dr. Paul van den Tempel has started his position as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Sustainable Process and Product Design, with a focus on education. Paul is a familiar face within our community. Over the past year, he has contributed as a lecturer and researcher, and we are pleased to see him take this next step in his career with his appointment to this Tenure Track position. His research is focused on producing self-healing materials that are sustainable, scalable and commercially attractive.

Biography
Paul van den Tempel was born in Assen (the Netherlands) in April 1997. He obtained a BSc and MSc degree in chemical engineering in the period of 2015-2020 at the University of Groningen, and finished a PhD focused on the development of 3D printed self-healing materials (2021-2024). In the last two years he continued to work as teacher at the university, but also continued his research on self-healing polymer materials through collaborations in Pisa and Belgium. As a chemical engineering student from Groningen, he knows the curriculum of chemical engineering and is passionate to motivate students and making them excited about the chemical engineering field.
