Erik Heeres partner in big circular chemistry project
Prof. Erik Heeres (ENTEG) partners in the national EUR 23 million ‘Circular Aromatics’ project. This initiative focuses on scaling up innovative recycling technologies that convert mixed plastic waste and biomass into high-value aromatic compounds such as benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX), as well as olefin- and paraffin-rich streams. The project is part of the Circular Plastics NL programme of the Dutch National Growth Fund. The Heeres-team receives EUR 833.000 and will focus specifically on the chemical recycling of polyolefins into BTX chemicals, aiming to develop efficient and sustainable processes that contribute to the circular economy. The Circular Aromatics project is linked to the expansion of BioBTX’s PETRA plant in Delfzijl.
