ENTEG PhD Day 2025: celebrating research, creativity, and connection
Yesterday, the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG) hosted its 9th annual PhD Day at the Biotoop in Haren. The event brought together PhD candidates, postdocs and supervisors for a day of scientific exchange, interdisciplinary discussion, and creative reflection.
A day of insight and interaction
The day kicked off with a presentation on the DeepTech Fellowship, setting the stage for a series of engaging talks. Each research unit was represented by a PhD candidate who shared their latest findings in oral presentations, while all other PhDs showcased their work through dynamic poster sessions. The atmosphere buzzed with lively discussions, as researchers connected across disciplines and explored new ideas. As always, the event celebrated outstanding contributions with awards for the best oral presentation and poster.
Creativity meets reflection
The day concluded with a unique activity: PhD candidates were invited to express creatively what it means to complete a PhD. The resulting drawings offered a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of the PhD journey, and revealed that a PhD is not always easy—stress, doubt, and even questions about whether it all leads to greater happiness were some common themes. It offered a thought-provoking glimpse behind the scenes. Above all, it was a successful, lighthearted way to spark conversation and connect with one another.
ENTEG extends its gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event: the presenters, organizers, and participants. Your enthusiasm and dedication make PhD Dayis one of the highlights of the academic year.
