Muhammad Ridho Rosa selected as FSE Deeptech Pioneer Fellow

Muhammad Ridho Rosa, PhD of the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG), has been selected as an FSE Deeptech Pioneer Fellow. Over the coming year, Ridho will further develop his technology, explore its market potential, develop an investor-ready business plan and work towards securing follow-on funding.
As a PhD student in the Discrete Technology & Production Automation (DTPA) research group under the supervision of Prof. Bayu Jayawardhana, Ridho has developed control algorithms for maintaining the formation of drones and mobile robots. Using real-time information from onboard sensor systems, such as monocular cameras, his algorithms can be implemented in a distributed way and can maintain the formation robustly, even in the presence of external disturbances including wind. This opens up the possibility of deploying drones-in-formation to realize a flying stereo camera system for a wide range of applications, including immersive entertainment, critical infrastructure inspection and environmental monitoring. The FSE Deeptech Pioneer Fellowship would give him the possibility to bring this flying multi-camera technology to the entertainment and asset management markets.
About FSE’s Deeptech Pioneer Fellowship
The programme is an initiative of Prof. Dr Matthias Heinemann, Professor of Molecular Systems Biology. It supports PhD students and postdocs from the Faculty of Science and Engineering in translating their research into impactful businesses. The programme focuses on groundbreaking innovations in areas including nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, green chemistry, medtech, biotech, robotics and quantum technology. These innovations have the potential to address major societal challenges in areas such as healthcare, climate, food and security.
A unique programme in the Netherlands
The programme is quite unique in the Netherlands. Similar programmes at universities in Switzerland and the United States have contributed to the establishment of successful deeptech start-ups.
