Grant Awarded for Sustainable Polyester Recycling Innovation: Project SPRINT
Erik Heeres of the Engineering and Technology institute (ENTEG) of University of Groningen, alongside CuRe Technology BV, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, has been awarded a grant for the Sustainable Polyester Recycling Implementation & Technology (SPRINT) project. This initiative aims to establish a circular factory for producing high-quality rPET specialties through chemical recycling, prioritizing quality, flexibility, and sustainability.
CuRe Technology BV, leading the effort, will develop a demonstration plant in Emmen’s GETEC Park to produce sustainable rPET polyester specialties. The project focuses on scaling up and automating innovative processes to handle heavily contaminated polyester waste streams, advancing knowledge on operational and critical parameters at pilot scale.
Funded by the European Union (Just Transition Fund), Samenwerkende Noordelijke Nederlanden, and the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, SPRINT reinforces CuRe Technology’s commitment to innovation and its ambition to create the world’s most sustainable PET production site in Emmen.
