Title: Visualization and Computer Graphics research at UFRGS/Brazil
Abstract:
In this talk I will present an overview of several ongoing projects I have been working at UFRGS, as well as some recent publications in the
areas of information visualization and visual analytics, high performance computing, real-time rendering and geometric algorithms. My main focus will be
in projects in the area of information visualization and visual analytics on the following topics: visualization of heart rate time series from exercise activities,
phenological monitoring of forest ecosystems, and visualization of soccer data. I will briefly review a system for shape matching using the notion
of depth complexity, and an algorithm for rendering massive transparent models called Hybrid Transparency.
Bio: Prof. Dr. João Luiz Dihl Comba, (UFRGS / Informatics Institute) is an Associate Professor at the ”Instituto de Informática, UFRGS” since 2002, where he leads research activities, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, and is advisor for Ph.D, M.Sc. and B.Sc. students. Dr. Comba has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University, United States (2000) with Prof. Leonidas J. Guibas as advisor, a M.Sc. in Systems Engineering and Computation from COPPE-Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1991) and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1987). His current research is on Graphics Processing, with emphasis on the following topics: information visualization, geometric algorithms, graphics hardware, scientific visualization and spatial data structures.
