Title: Direct and inverse problems for wave propagation in periodic structures

Abstract:

In this talk, I will introduce some numerical methods to simulate wave propagation in open periodic structures. The main idea to solve this problem is first to approximate the problem by the one in a closed waveguide (main techniques include the transparent boundary condition (TBC) and the perfectly matched layers (PML)), and then solve the closed waveguide problem by the Floquet-Bloch theory. I will also show the convergence results and some numerical results. Some numerical methods for the inverse problems (for example, to reconstruct the locally perturbed periodic surfaces from near-field measurement) will also be introduced.
