Research organisation
Since 1987 the Research School of Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) represents and coordinates the neuroscience research of the University of Groningen. Within Groningen, its interdisciplinary research activities are performed at five different faculties: the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), the Faculty of Medical Science/University Medical Center Groningen (FMW/UMCG), the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences (GMW), the Faculty of Philosophy (FW) and the Faculty of Arts (LET).
Since several years, the universities of Groningen and Twente collaborate closely on different levels and in 2014 the University of Twente joined the Research School BCN. First with the former Institute for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine (MIRA) and more recently with the Technical Medical (TechMed) Centre.
Its interdisciplinary research activities are performed at five faculties of the University of Groningen and one faculty of the University of Twente:
- the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE)
- the Faculty of Medical Science/University Medical Center Groningen (FMW/UMCG)
- the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences (GMW)
- the Faculty of Philosophy (FW)
- the Faculty of Arts (LET)
- the Technical Medical (TechMed) Centre, University of Twente
BCN's research mission is to bring together research at different levels, specifications of brain activity at the molecular or cellular level, analyses of physical and mental operations, up to the complex level of information processing. In order to do so we have set up eight collaborative programs which are conducted across our participating research institutes.
