Rosalind Franklin programme
The University of Groningen has initiated the prestigious Rosalind Franklin Fellowship programme to promote the advancement of talented international researchers at the highest levels of the institution. The RFF programme attracts the best researchers from all over the world to perform research in their own field of research. The Rosalind Franklin Fellowship programme aims to attract women, an underrepresented gender in all fields of research. The programme is aimed at women in academia, research institutes or industry who have a PhD and would like a tenure-track position leading to a full professorship in a top European research university.

Regular PhD
These regular 4 year PhD positions are offered by individual researchers or research groups. Information on the positions currently available can be found on the UMCG website. If there is nothing suitable, you can instead ask to be notified by email as new positions appear.

Research masters → PhD track
- 2-year, selective and international (2 + 3 year program)
The most talented students who have completed one of the Research Master programs at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences (GSMS) have the opportunity to apply for a fully funded 3-year PhD education and training program. The most excellent projects are awarded funding.
- Brain and Cognition/GSMS 3-year PhD positions
Also the most talented students who have completed the BCN Research Master Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (N-track) and have written an excellent projects proposal have the opportunity to apply for a fully funded 3-year PhD education and training program.
- Abel Tasman Talent Programme

Honours programmes (JSM / Honours College) → MD/PhD programme
- MD/PhD programme
The MD/PhD program offers students the opportunity to combine their Master phase with PhD training and to then obtain a (D.)M.D. and Ph.D. degree upon completion. In this programme students spend an additional two years (financed) on scientific research alongside their regular medical or dental education. Students obtain their PhD in just two years, instead of the regular four years of PhD research

UMCG (Pre-)Tenure Track
UMCG Tenure Track system aims to recruit and retain outstanding young scientists by offering them a clear career path. In the longer term, these members of staff will progress to key positions within the UMCG.
