Mapping the active layer of the permafrost layer

Koos de Vries, Wouter Rooke

My research proposal on Edgeøya consist of a detail mapping the variation of the thickness of the active layer in the upper subsurface of depth of the permafrost layer. This in relation to the height above sealevel, local variation in soilcomposition, vegetation and slope (direction and angle). I am interesting in the variability of the permafrost layer and how it changes in time and how it relates with other parameters. The mapping of the active layer/permafrost will be done by use of several geophysical equipment like GPR, EMI, Gammaspectrometer and vertical measurements/gradients of temperature in a mini borehole.
