Groningen Centre for Health Law

Health law is multidisciplinary - cutting across international, regional and domestic law, and resting on insights from (health) science. The Groningen Centre for Health Law (GCHL) engages with law as it informs the underlying determinants of health. In our research and teaching, we analyze the role of human rights and the right to health in addressing access to quality healthcare services as well as disease prevention and health promotion.

We further explore the role of other fields of law such as international trade law, international investment law, international environmental law and EU law in these areas. Broader research themes in our Centre include health inequalities, disease prevention, vulnerability in healthcare settings, as well as reproductive, mental and environmental health. We foster PhD research in these areas and offer courses in health law at the LLM level (Dutch and English); we organize a yearly summer school; and we collaborate with the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) in teaching and research.
