AI and law in dialogue: New pathways for interdisciplinary research
On Wednesday 5 June, the workshop ‘Making Connections: AI x LAW’ took place at the House of Connections, organized by Pepijn Tukker and Tim van Zuijlen (FRG) and Zoé Christoff (FSE). During the afternoon, researchers from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Science and Engineering came together to strengthen mutual connections and foster collaboration in interdisciplinary research and education.
Shared questions and common ambitions
The workshop was made possible by the YAG Incentive Fund, which had previously been awarded to the organizers. One of the concrete outcomes of the event was a list of legal questions and challenges that AI researchers are concerned with, and a set of technical themes that spark the interest of legal scholars. This input will be compiled into a report to be broadly shared. The hope is that this report will not only serve as inspiration for new collaborations but may also help lay the foundation for a shared interdisciplinary research and/or teaching agenda.
To be continued…
The afternoon clearly left participants wanting more: there was strong enthusiasm and several ideas were shared for a follow-up workshop, a joint summer school, and even an interdisciplinary postgraduate (PAO) course.
Special thanks go to the moderators of the breakout sessions, Eveline van Beem and Gerard Ritsema van Eck, student assistant Ísey Mous, and the staff of the Jantina Tammes School for their valuable support.
