Björn Hoops appointed as Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape

Prof. Björn Hoops, Professor of Private Law and Sustainability at our faculty, has been appointed as Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in South Africa, effective 1 July 2025. His appointment is for a period of three years, until 30 June 2028.
With this appointment, UWC expresses its appreciation for Hoops’ academic expertise. He will contribute to research, teaching, and postgraduate supervision in the field of private law, in particular as regards sustainability.
As an Extraordinary Professor, Hoops will be affiliated with UWC’s Department of Private Law. This collaboration gives the Global South more prominence in his work and supports the further development of private law in both South Africa and the Netherlands.
