Prof. Fatih Ibili installed as Advocate General at Supreme Court

On Tuesday 2 July, Prof. Fatih Ibili was installed as Advocate General at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. He will hold a role in the civil law section of the public prosecutor's office.
Combination with professorship
In his new role, Ibili will write conclusions (legal opinions) in civil cases brought before the Supreme Court. He combines his new position as Advocate General at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands with his professorship at the University of Groningen. He has held the chair in Persons, Family and Juvenile Law since 2017. For the past 6.5 years he has also worked as a judge at the Court of Appeal of The Hague.
The public prosecutor’s office at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands
The prosecutor's office at the Supreme Court is separate from the public prosecutor's office. At the head of the prosecutor's office is the attorney general. In addition, the prosecutor's office includes the deputy attorney general and the attorneys general. The members are independent of the government and parliament.
The attorneys general are independently responsible for the content of their conclusions. They work either in the civil law section or in the criminal or tax law section. In their work they are supported by staff of the scientific office.
