Application steps
Step 1: Nomination (home university)
To be eligible for an exchange with the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen, you must be a registered student at one of our partner universities.
Contact the exchange coordinator at your home university to be nominated for an exchange, and check whether you meet the requirements for the Law Faculty of the University of Groningen.
Please check our schedule of courses to see whether we offer courses that align with your study programme at your home institution.
Step 2: Application (Mobility Online)
After your home university has nominated you for an exchange, you need to fill in your online application in Mobility Online and upload several documents. You will automatically receive instructions by email about this step after we accept your nomination.
Your application must include:
-
Transcript of Records (in English)
-
Copy of a valid Passport/EU ID
-
Proof of English proficiency (if required for your course level)
Please read the instructions carefully. If you are unable to complete the application in one session, you can save it and resume it later. Please ensure you complete your application before the deadline: 15 April for Autumn and Academic Year applications and 15 October for Spring.
Please note: incomplete/incorrect applications will not be processed.
Step 3: Decision
After you apply, the Faculty of Law International Office will review your application, and if you are accepted, you will receive practical instructions for the next steps (course planning, arrival information, etc.)
Step 4: After acceptance
1) Start looking for housing immediately
-
Finding accommodation in Groningen is difficult, especially before the first semester starts. Therefore, start searching for housing as soon as possible.
2) Visa/residence (if non-EU/EEA)
-
Once we receive all required documents, the International Office will start your university registration. You will then automatically receive an email with your UG student number and account details.
Important: You cannot activate your UG account more than three months before the start of your exchange programme.
-
Students who need a visa or a Dutch residence permit will be contacted by the Immigration Service Desk (ISD) once they have been registered as a UG student. The University of Groningen, through the ISD, will apply for a visa on their behalf. For more information, you can contact the ISD.
3) Plan your courses
-
Check course levels and entry requirements early.
-
Master-level courses typically require C1 English and permission.
