Contested Human Rights in the Context of Rape Law
Women’s human rights have led to the contestation of longtime existing cultural norms about sexual relations and new criminal law rules about what behavior is punishable. However, criminal lawyers point at how this possibly clashes with the rights of the suspect. The challenge now is in finding the right balance between both kinds of rights. Nicolle Zeegers will talk about how the new rules have come into being and how social dialogue about the issues involved can help prevent imbalance.
