Are you curious about the role of religion in societies worldwide? And do you have a broad interest in anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, philosophy, and history? Then Religious Studies is perfect for you! Discover more at our Open Day.

Why study religion?
Religion matters: 85% of the world’s population identify themselves as
religious, and religion is an important factor in many national and international themes and debates, for instance on climate change, radicalization, diversity discussions, heritage, sexual health, and on migration, conflicts and peacebuilding.
In the BA Religious Studies, you explore religion as a human and social phenomenon. You don’t ask whether religion is 'true,' but how religion affects people's lives. You study how people think, behave, and give meaning to the world through religion. Understanding religion is key to understanding today’s world, and experts who can analyze and explain the impact of religion are essential today.
The programme combines perspectives from history, anthropology, sociology, political science, psychology, and philosophy. This interdisciplinary approach trains you to become a broadly skilled social scientist, equipped to analyze the role of religion in today’s world.
Open Day
During the information round, study advisors Kees van den Ende and Nina van der Velden will introduce you to the structure and content of the programme.
You will also attend a sample lecture by Dr. Peter Berger on Anthropology of Religion — a first taste of what it’s like to study Religious Studies in Groningen.
Afterwards, our students will happily show you around our historic faculty building — the former courthouse of the city of Groningen. And study advisors, teachers, and students will be there to answer all your questions.
