Weather update - this weekend and next week
Based on the latest weather forecasts and reports from public transport companies, we are taking the following measures:
Weekend of January 10 and 11
This weekend, study areas in the University Library, the Medical Library, and the Duisenberg Building will be available. The Sports Center and the University Museum will also be open. Planned activities will go ahead as scheduled unless otherwise announced.
Next week
Next week, starting Monday 12 January, exams will take place. The University of Groningen crisis team is monitoring the weather situation and will make a final decision on Sunday.
This Sunday around 1 p.m., we will announce whether the buildings will be open and the exams will definitely go ahead. Our starting point is that everything can continue as normal, unless the weather conditions make this irresponsible. Keep an eye on the website, My University, and the Student Portal.
We understand that the uncertainty about whether the exams will go ahead may cause anxiety. That is why we will make a final decision on Sunday and share it with you as soon as possible. Take good care of yourself and others. Safety comes first.
De-icing
We are working hard to keep our grounds as free of snow as possible. Unfortunately, clearing footpaths is sometimes proving ineffective. We then focus on roads and cycle paths. As soon as the snowfall eases, we will turn our attention back to the footpaths. Over the next few days we will be deploying additional equipment and delivering extra salt to the faculties.
Despite efforts to clear all ice, please be aware of slippery conditions on roads, cycle paths and footpaths, particularly on Friday 9 January. We expect to have everything cleared by the weekend.
