During the 2025 Liberation Day Festival in the Stadspark in Groningen, the UG hosts its own ‘Science Space’. This small space, set up with two shipping containers, offers researchers the opportunity to present their work in an accessible way to the general public. Think of 10-minute flash lectures, short films, mini-workshops, live demonstrations, art installations, and more. The UG SPRAAKLAB (Speech Lab) will also be present.

The festival attracts between 50,000 and 80,000 visitors each year on 5 May to the Stadspark. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with a large audience. Researchers, artists, and the community come together to explore current societal themes under the central theme of Freedom.
The space is sponsored by the Young Academy Groningen (YAG). The Public Events Manager of the Faculty of Arts coordinates all logistics surrounding the event. UG researchers provide the content. Anyone interested in the theme of ‘Freedom’ and with an idea to share is welcome to participate!
