Prestigious HPC Wire Reader's Choice Award for innovative software solution from EESSI
During the Supercomputing Conference SC24 in Atlanta, the European Environment for Scientific Software Installations (EESSI) has won the the HPC Wire Reader's Choice Award in 'Best HPC Programming Tool or Technology' category.
The prestigious award is a great recognition for the HPC team of the Center for Information Technology (CIT), which has been instrumental in developing EESSI as a projectpartner. It underlines EESSI's impact on scientific research within high performance computing (HPC). The award confirms the very positive response the project has received in the community so far, including deployment in many HPC sites across Europe.
Optimal software performance
EESSI (European Environment for Scientific Software Installations, pronounced 'easy') is a collaborative project between HPC support teams aiming to build a common stack of optimized scientific software installations. Optimal software performance is crucial to exploit the full capacity of expensive and complex HPC systems. It gives researchers access to hundreds of instantly deployable software packages optimized for a wide range of hardware. This saves time and effort during the start-up of their HPC projects.
More efficient and fewer obstacles
With EESSI, users can be sure to find the optimized scientific software they need, whether they are working on a laptop, a university HPC site or even on large-scale EuroHPC JU HPC systems. Because software installations are handled by EESSI and streamed effortlessly, HPC administrators and user support teams can focus on maintaining their systems and helping users.

MultiXscale
CIT is one of the founding members of the EESSI project and has been involved in the design, development and hosting of the central software repository in local facilities from the very beginning. EESSI is funded through the MultiXscale EuroHPC JU Center-of-Excellence. MultiXscale is a collaboration between scientific partners of the CECAM network focusing on exascale-compatible multiscale simulations, while EESSI focuses on the technical aspects of software installation, optimization and delivery.
HPC Wire Award
HPCwire is a leading magazine in the field of High Performance Computing. The Supercomputing Conference, Reader's and Editor's Choice Awards are given annualy for various aspects of HPC, including a category HPC Programming Tool of Technology. The award highlights the most groundbreaking technologies and projects in 24 HPC categories.
