Join the Healthy Ageing week

27 September 2022
Theme: Smaakt naar meer

Giving both young and old a taste of the wealth of knowledge in the field of healthy ageing in the province of Groningen: that is the goal of the Healthy Ageing Week, held from 30 September to 9 October. This year, the theme is healthy living and eating. Feed your brain with dietary knowledge in the public lectures. Join in a wild foraging walk or a cycle tour through the city. Visit the Open Day of local businesses that care about nutrition and nature. Refresh your energy during a yoga class. Sample science during Zpannend Zernike. And receive tailor-made lifestyle advice in our Healthy Living Room.

Contribution by the UG/UMCG

The UG and UMCG are contributing to the week by holding lectures (in Dutch) on 3, 4, and 6 October. The lectures will touch on topics including malnutrition, help in making healthy choices at the supermarket, and meat replacements.

The annual Zpannend Zernike event will also take place on 1 and 2 October, during which young and old will get to glimpse the world of science. Finally, the ‘Proef de stad!’ (Taste the city) cycle tour will be held, in which participants will follow a guide who will explain the then-and-now of various spots in the city.

Balans activities

Balans has also organized activities for the Healthy Ageing Week together with HR and the Usva student cultural centre. During this week, a range of different topics will be covered. Learn what various emotions are exactly trying to tell you during the ‘Emoties’ (Emotions) lunchtime lecture. How can you keep your brain sharp? Learn about this during the ‘Hoe voed je je brein?’ (How do you feed your brain?) lecture. One way of relaxing and improving your memory is singing, and so the Musical Choir will also be present! Take a look at the full programme (only visible for employees).

The Healthy Ageing Week is an initiative by the Healthy Ageing Network Northern Netherlands and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Municipality and Province of Groningen, the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the University of Groningen (UG), Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Noorderpoort, and Alfa College.
