More space for padel and beach volleyball through redesign of front area ACLO Sports Centre

13 June 2022

The front area of the ACLO Sports Centre on the Zernike Campus Groningen will be redesigned in the coming period. This will make it possible to fulfill a wish of students from the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. Two new padel courts will be installed on the forecourt. The old padel court will be demolished. This will create space to move the beach volleyball courts and to turn them in such a way that an air-supported dome can be placed over the beach courts in the winter period. This will allow for year-round (summer and winter) beach volleyball at the Sports Centre. Furthermore, the terrace near the Sportsbar will be renewed and the bicycle storage facilities will be rearranged. The work will be carried out by CSC Sports from Zeewolde and will start in the middle of June and is expected to be completed in Mid-August.

Temporary parking places

During the works, the main entrance will remain accessible. However, the parking spaces and bicycle parking spaces will not be available. Three alternative parking spaces will be available on P2 (near G.S.V.V. The Knickerbockers), at the back of the Sports Centre (from the cinder track) and near the tennis courts (route via the fuel station). See also the illustration below.
