Welcome to the renewed Duisenberg pond
The Duisenberg pond on Zernike Campus Groningen has undergone an entire metamorphosis. It has become an attractive place for students, employees and visitors. With a landscaped park, promenade and picnic benches, the area around the Duisenberg pond is now a lovely place to be. For this metamorphosis, the quay of the pond was lowered and equipped with a wide and wheelchair-accessible deck over the water.

The small park around the Duisenberg pond was sown via hydroseeding. This is a sowing technique in which the flower seed is mixed with paper pulp and a blue/green dye, among other things. Because of the dye, which disappears after 4 days, it is easy to see where the seeds have been applied. This ensures perfect distribution. Paper pulp retains water longer, allowing the flower seeds to germinate better.
More biodiversity
So-called aquaflora mats float in the water, containing a special composition of plants. These plants improve the quality of the water. Together with the adjacent park this contributes to the ecological value and more biodiversity on the Campus.
Upgrade Zernikelaan
The Duisenberg pond is part of the Upgrade Zernikelaan project, in which the entire Zernikelaan will be renewed and the residential quality of Campus Groningen will be improved. The area as a whole will become more accessible and attractive and will provide a boost to employment. The work on Zernikelaan is expected to be completed before the start of the new academic year. The new planting will be installed in the autumn.
