Start renovation Duisenberg pond

30 March 2020

The renovation of the Duisenberg Pond on Zernike Campus Groningen has started. The quay will be replaced by decks on the water and a wide staircase to the water will be made on the north side. A lovely place to sit by the water.

Until the summer holidays, the activities consist of installing new sheet piling. Then the woodwork for the decking will be placed. If all work continues to go according to plan, the renovation of the pond will be finished by the end of 2020.

Impact of the work activities

Investigations are carried out at some locations around the pond that may be sensitive to vibrations from the work. That is why a trial was carried out two weeks ago with the installation of a number of sheet pile profiles placed in the pond. This allowed the researchers to measure the effect of the vibrations. Fortunately, the installation of the sheet pile does not disrupt business processes. But now that the majority of the activities on Zernike are cancelled (because of corona), the impact of the activities has become much smaller.

Work activities at Zernikeplein

Preparatory work on Zernikeplein will start this week. The curve in the road at the Willem Alexander Sports Center will be widened and the bus stop of Zernikeplein is moving up a bit. A temporary bus stop will be placed and the footpath will be connected to it. Then the installation of the cables and pipes starts and the old footpaths will be removed. During this work, pedestrians are briefly diverted over the temporary footpaths.

Please note: measures regarding the Corona virus are being followed and the work around the project Updrage Zernikelaan can continue.
