Scientific director KNIR appointed

The Board of the University is pleased to announce the definitive appointment of the new scientific director of the Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (KNIR). Prof. F.L. (Lautaro) Roig Lanzillotta will take up the post of scientific director on the 1st of May 2020 for a period of 5 years. Roig Lanzillotta is Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity within the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Groningen. He has a broad interdisciplinary interest and holds a PhD in both theology and in classical languages and culture.
The vacancy of director KNIR was created by the expiry of the five-year term of scientific director prof. Dr. Harald Hendrix on 1 August 2019. In the month of August, dr. Arno Witte, head of art history KNIR, has taken the position. Prof. Elmer Sterken has been interim scientific director at KNIR since 1 September. Due to the appointment of Prof. Roig Lanzillotta from 1 May 2020, the temporary observation by Elmer Sterken has been extended until that date.
