One in three women worldwide deals with violence at some point in their life. In the Netherlands, as much as 45% of women and girls are impacted by violence. In order to generate attention for this, the United Nations has designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The ‘Orange the World’ campaign, with more than 100 countries participating, kicks off on this day and will end on 10 December. These are the ‘16 Days of Action’ for the elimination of violence against women, which are also being honoured in the Netherlands. The campaign is coordinated worldwide by UN Women, the UN organization for women’s rights. In Groningen, there will be three days of action at the initiative of the Nachtraad (Night Council) Groningen, the Municipal Health Authority (GGD) Groningen, Zonta Groningen 1991, the Municipality of Groningen and many other organizations.

On 25, 26 and 27 November, the following places and buildings throughout the city centre will be lit up in orange to generate attention for this theme: the Waagplein, the Goudkantoor, Mr Mofongo, DOT and the Academy Building.
