One in three women worldwide deals with violence at some point in their life. In the Netherlands, as much as 45% of women and girls are impacted by violence. In order to generate attention for this, the United Nations has designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The ‘Orange the World’ campaign, with more than 100 countries participating, kicks off on this day and will end on 10 December. These are the ‘16 Days of Action’ for the elimination of violence against women, which are also being honoured in the Netherlands. The campaign is coordinated worldwide by UN Women, the UN organization for women’s rights.
