Historians’ Days 2019 at the UG

21 August 2019

Who writes what history, based on which sources? Why don’t we have a category for ‘men’s history’, but we do have one for women’s history? Is black history just about slavery? Is there such a thing as a non-colonial ‘patriotic history’? These are the sorts of questions that fall under the theme of the Historians’ Days 2019 : Inclusive History.

The conference is an initiative by the Royal Netherlands Historical Society (Koninklijk Nederlands Historisch Genootschap, KNHG), which is organizing this year’s edition of the Historians’ Days in collaboration with and hosted at the University of Groningen between Thursday 22 and Saturday 24 August 2019.

The conference begins on Thursday evening with a speech by Jouke de Vries, President of the Board of the University of Groningen. The programme is full of inspirational lectures, such as that by Emeritus Professor Catherine Hall (London University College), as well as debates and various workshops. In addition, city walks, guided tours and historical cafés are also on offer. The final debate on Saturday 24 August will be chaired by historian and journalist Coen Verbr aak.

The Historians’ Days will also host the presentation of the Johanna Naber Prize for the best thesis in the area of women’s and/or gender studies.
