GSZ Mayday wins KSA 2019

19 August 2019

The KEI week (12-16 August) was a great success! Stichting KEI and the Green Office, together with the GREEN team, have made every effort to make the KEI week as sustainable as possible. The Green Team now exists for the second year and this year’s energy, water and waste measurements were taken. These will be compared to last year's measurements.

KEI Sustainability Award

One of the initiatives designated to make the KEI week more sustainable is the KEI Sustainability Award (KSA). This is the prize for the most sustainable stunt of a student association in Groningen. This prize went to GSKV Released in 2018 for making a kiteboard consisting of plastic waste.

GSZ Mayday winner KSA 2019

This year the KSA was won by GSZ Mayday. During the past week, together with prospective students, they have made the canals of Groningen cleaner by scooping waste on sailing boats with nets. With this they asked for attention for "the plastic soup". The way in which prospective students were involved in this action was decisive for winning the award. With this sustainable action they have received a cheque of 300 euros to make the association more sustainable.

More and more attention to waste

This year, even more attention has been paid to waste. For example, more waste bins have been placed with coding plates and reusable hard cups have been used successfully at the festival. The festival site was practically completely clean afterwards! During the KEI week, the Green Office also gave several workshops on waste that were visited extremely well. On Wednesday we were at More to Explore, where we gave a Zero Waste workshop to around 80 students. Here, among other things, tips were given on how you can reduce your waste production. You can find our upcoming activities via our social media and our website. Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm during the KEI week, we look forward to seeing you soon!
