UG positively assessed in Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment

The Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) has given the University of Groningen (UG) a positive assessment for the Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment. This was made known on Wednesday 3 July. The NVAO accepted the positive advice from the Institutional Quality Assurance Assessment Committee and will also issue positive advice to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science about the UG’s implementation of quality agreements.

President of the Board of the University, Jouke de Vries, is happy with the outcome: ‘Together with the faculties and consultative participation bodies, we have worked hard on this. The positive assessment confirms that the UG’s teaching is of a high quality and that we have quality assurance well in order. I would like to thank the Committee and the NVAO for the constructive collaboration and the useful recommendations. With these, we can continue improving.’

The NVAO assesses all Dutch universities once every six years with respect to the quality of teaching: the institutional quality assurance assessment (ITK). The ITK visits took place on 7 and 8 March and 10, 11 and 12 April 2019. The review panel held discussions with various staff members and students of the University. The NVAO bases their assessment on a critical self-reflection written by the UG and on visits made by the NVAO review panel. The central question asked during this assessment is: will the UG be able to realize its vision of teaching by means of internal quality assurance, and is it in a position to continue to work sustainably on developments and improvements?
