Albertus Magnus accredited for next three years
The University of Groningen (UG) and Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS) have adopted the recommendation from the Accreditation Committee for the assessment of student organizations, and have given the Albertus Magnus student association accreditation for the next three years.
Albertus Magnus submitted its critical self-reflection to the Accreditation Committee. On the basis of both the report and the consultation that was conducted with the board and members of the association, the Committee issued a positive recommendation to the Board of the University of Groningen and the Executive Board of Hanze UAS. Accreditation means that the association is officially recognized as part of the academic community in Groningen. The association is also allowed to participate in official events, to advertise itself during the KEI week and to request grants from the Graduation Fund.
Background of Accreditation Committee for student associations
The UG, Hanze UAS, the Municipality and student organizations all promote a healthy and safe student community in Groningen. In the autumn of 2016, certain incidents highlighted a need for cultural changes in a number of student associations. For this reason, an accreditation system for student associations was established by the city’s educational institutions. Accreditation is seen as a suitable tool to initiate, assess and guarantee a thought process about cultural experiences and their manifestations within student organizations, as well as to map, interpret and try to minimize the risks within student organizations.
Alongside Albertus Magnus, student associations Navigators and Aegir have also been accredited this year. Vindicat did not receive their accreditation in the autumn of 2018.
