Festive cakes at the UG bake-off
Sixteen colourful cakes adorned the Academieplein on Friday afternoon. Several students and staff members had baked an ‘all-inclusive’ cake to mark the occasion of the UG’s anniversary. Warmed by a radiant sun and with Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken serving as apron-donning master of ceremonies, the various cakes went down well with the visitors and anyone who happened to be passing by.
Student Jasper Hidding won the baking competition. He decorated his cake with lots of red marzipan, the anniversary logo and the inside revealed all the colours of the rainbow. ‘The ultimate anniversary cake’, commented chair of the jury Sarena Solari, who was very enthusiastic about the taste and look of the cake. ‘A very light and creamy butter cake, that is difficult to get exactly right.’
