College Tour with Carles Puigdemont (live stream)

13 February 2019

Studium Generale has invited Catalan politican Carles Puigdemont for a College Tour on Wednesday 13 February. In this College Tour, Puigdemont will share his experiences of past and current events, his ideas and vision about the future of Catalonia and Europe, and his proposals about how to resolve a situation that is affecting us all in Europe. He will be interviewed by Tim Huiskes. The event is sold out, but you can watch the live stream by clicking the button below.

Carles Puigdemont currently lives in Belgium. A former Mayor of Girona, Puigdemont served as President of the Government of Catalonia from January 2016 to October 2017, when he was removed from office by the Spanish Government following the unilateral Catalan declaration of independence.

This College Tour is organized in collaboration between Studium Generale and the department of Minorities & Multilingualism. In addition to an interview, there will be ample opportunity for students to ask Puigdemont their questions. One of our experts in the field of international relations, Tim Huiskes will lead the debate. He is president of the University of Groningen University Council, lecturer in International Relations and International Organization at the Faculty of Law and researcher at Globalisation Studies Groningen (GSG).

Background
Studium Generale Groningen organizes innovative and multidisciplinary activities in the fields of science, culture and society. The varied programme, including lectures, films, debates and more, is intended for a wide audience of students, lecturers and other interested parties from within the city and province of Groningen. The UG has had a centre for Minorities & Multilingualism for several years now, where students can study minority cultures and languages.
The independence, language and culture of Catalonia have recently become a hot topic internationally. Offering politician Carles Puigdemont a platform, as well as critically questioning him, is in keeping with the tradition of Studium Generale – we are not pro or contra Catalonia, we are pro debate.
