Accreditation for student football club The Knickerbockers
The University of Groningen (UG) and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen have endorsed the advice of the Accreditation Committee for the assessment of student organizations, and are giving student sports club The Knickerbockers accreditation for the next three years.
GSVV The Knickerbockers was the first association to submit a critical self-reflection report to the Accreditation Committee in the academic year 2017-2018. On the basis of the report, and of the consultation that was previously conducted with the Board of The Knickerbockers, the Committee has issued a positive recommendation to the Board of the University of Groningen and the Executive Board of Hanze UAS Groningen. The following recommendations have been given:
- Maintain annual contact with the association about how the international football camp goes
- Maintain contact with the Sports Centre about its collaboration with The Knickerbockers
- Monitor in the current academic year whether the intention to hold an anonymous survey among members and to appoint a confidential advisor will be carried out.
The Board of the University of Groningen and the Executive Board of Hanze UAS Groningen have endorsed the conclusions and recommendations of the Accreditation Committee and have decided to give the student football club accreditation for the next three years.
Background to the advice of the Accreditation Committee for the assessment of student organizations
In Autumn 2016, certain incidents highlighted a need for cultural changes in a number of student associations: from a drinking culture to a culture that encourages academic development, and from initiation rituals to a proper introduction. A system of accreditation for student associations was set up and six student organizations are currently being assessed.
