Successful Welcoming Ceremony and Welcoming PARTY

05 September 2018

Thursday August 30 2018 the UG welcomed almost 2600 new international students during the Welcoming Ceremony at the Oosterpoort. After attending a plenary opening session with speakers like Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken, Alderman Joost van Keulen and ESN-president Tjitske Schokker students could attend a variety of short interactive workshops and visit the information fair. With over 40 exhibitors like ACLO, Experience Groningen and a range of international student associations, the market served as a great opportunity to learn more about what the university and the city of Groningen have to offer.

The evening programme consisted of an exciting, sold out, first edition of the Welcoming PARTY for both Dutch and international first year students to encourage integration, and included nine live acts from around Groningen and Friesland, a Dutch food-tasting corner and a limited edition T-Shirt as a takeaway after a great night.
