UG in 39th place on European Teaching Excellence ranking list
Times Higher Education has created a new ranking list by way of a pilot project: the Europe Teaching Rankings 2018. The UG has been ranked 39 out of 240 European universities . This new ranking focuses on teaching quality. Of the Dutch universities only UvA ranks higher.
The Europe Teaching Rankings list is based on 13 indicators of which 7 are derived from the European Student Survey. This survey takes into account involvement in the degree programme, interaction with lecturers, teaching quality and career preparation. Almost 1250 UG students took part in the survey (ca. 4%) (compared to the NSE where 30% participated). The other 6 indicators are derived from data also used for the famous Times Higher Education World University Rankings . These are:
- Staff-to-student ratio: 7.5%
- Papers-to-staff ratio: 7.5%
- Academic reputation: 10%
- Graduation rate: 5%
- Gender balance of academic staff: 10%
- Gender balance of students: 10%
Quality
Prospective students from abroad use the ranking lists as an important indicator of the quality of a university and thus ensure that their degree certificate is worth their investment. Researchers, government bodies in charge of student grants and businesses alike consider ranking lists important.
