The entire opposition consisted of women

31 May 2018

Last month, visitors to the Academy building were treated to a particularly special photo opportunity on the central stairs (see photo). For the PhD thesis defence ceremony of Naomi Teekamp on April 20th (Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy), the entire opposition consisted of women. The only men present were the beadle and the-now-Dr. Teekamp’s supervisors, who did not take part in the discussion. Professor Sabeth Verpoorte, who chaired the ceremony, remarked that she was proud to be part of this unique occasion, which was definitely a first for GRIP and the faculty, and possibly even for the beta sciences in the Netherlands. The times, they are a-changin’ in academia – and we can all be proud of that!
