Marie-José van Tol wins Heineken Young Scientists Award

Marie-José van Tol has been awarded the Heineken Young Scientists Award 2018 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in the domain of Social Sciences. Van Tol is researcher at the UMCG and a member of the Young Academy Groningen. The award recognizes her research on the many factors that contribute to depression and other psychiatric disorders.
Awards in other domains go to legal sociologist Maartje van der Woude, biochemist Joost Snijder and geoscientist Peter Bijl. The award ceremony will be held on 27 September.
The Heineken Young Scientists Awards
The Heineken Young Scientist Award is an important encouragement prize for young researchers whose outstanding work sets an example for other young scholars. From the 2018 edition onwards a winner will be selected for each of the following domains: Humanities, Social Sciences, Medical/Biomedical Sciences and Natural Sciences. Each winner of the Heineken Young Scientists Award will receive a work of art by Amsterdam artist Jeroen Henneman plus a sum of € 10,000. The Heineken Prizes are funded by the Dr H.P. Heineken Foundation and by the Alfred Heineken Fondsen Foundation.
