Special edition of National Geographic featuring Groningen
The world’s first climate-neutral hydrogen plant, the most sustainable education building in the Netherlands and an island that satisfies all its own energy needs thanks to the Energy Transition Centre. These are just a few examples of the many innovative sustainability projects developed in Groningen.
To put these (and other) projects into the spotlight, the renowned magazine National Geographic is publishing a special edition entitled ‘New energy’, entirely dedicated to innovation in energy transition in the province of Groningen. Jos Winkelman and Kees Hummelen are two of the people from the UG who worked on the edition.
The energy revolution is rapidly approaching
The special was prompted by the documentary An Inconvenient Truth 2, in which Al Gore tries to show how close the energy revolution is. The Groningen Forum will be showing this documentary on Friday 24 November during IDFA in Groningen . After the film, there will be a discussion with various guests, including Maarten Loonen, Assistant Professor of Arctic Ecology at the UG and researcher on Spitsbergen. The discussion will focus on innovative solutions in the field of sustainability in the Netherlands, and more specifically, in Groningen.
