Green light for University College Fryslân in Leeuwarden
The new three-year Bachelor’s programme in Global Responsibility & Leadership at the University of Groningen/Campus Fryslân has been accredited. The University also applied to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for the label ‘small-scale and intensive programme’. This will make it possible to admit a select number of students to the programme. The programme begins in September 2018 and registration for the 75 to 100 places has opened. Prof. Andrej Zwitter is Dean of the programme.
‘The new Bachelor’s programme, our Master’s College and the Graduate School are the three cornerstones of Campus Fryslân. It is fantastic that our University College has been accredited and we can now throw open the doors to new students,’ says Dean of Campus Fryslân Prof. Jouke de Vries.
Global challenges, local solutions
With its Bachelor of Science in Global Responsibility & Leadership, Campus Fryslân aims to create active, self-aware global citizens who are able to forge connections. The programme is based on the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, and combines a challenging academic curriculum with a focus on personal development and leadership skills. The programme is offered at University College Fryslân, an international learning environment that provides intensive small-scale teaching for a select group of students. The students form a close community and live in the same building in the first year. This is within walking distance of De Beurs in Leeuwarden, where University College will be located.

Dean of University College Fryslân
Prof. Andrej Zwitter has been appointed Dean of University College Fryslân by the Board of the University of Groningen. ‘Andrej Zwitter’s extensive international network will help enormously to attract students and expand University College Fryslân’, says De Vries. ‘He has experience in the field of international relations and a broad overview of other disciplines. This will be of great benefit in developing the interdisciplinary curriculum of our Bachelor’s programme.’
Zwitter is looking forward to his new role. ‘I think that the new Global Responsibility & Leadership programme is an important addition to the current range of programmes. I am honoured and extremely pleased to be able to stand as Dean at the inception of this Bachelor’s programme.’
