Students and staff of the University of Groningen are shocked by the news that medical student Emma Essers died in the plane crash in Ukraine, together with members of her family.

The University was also dismayed to learn that immediate family of another student and a member of staff perished in the disaster.

On behalf of all the staff and students, we would like to express our deepest sympathy to all the bereaved.

The Board of the University,

Sibrand Poppema, Elmer Sterken and Jan de Jeu.
