New Unifocus: Chinese students have been studying Dutch, fast and intelligent cells recently won a special race, art from the shadows
The new Unifocus, the video magazine of the University of Groningen, is online. In this week's edition:
- Chinese students have been studying Dutch. Ten Chinese third-year students of Dutch from the Communication University of China have been studying Dutch at the University of Groningen this academic year, thanks in part to the Groningen Confucius Institute. The students have been taking an intensive programme at the University Language Centre, studying language acquisition, speaking and writing skills, literature and history. What did a year in Groningen teach them?
- Fast cells. A University team of cell biologists recently won a special race for cells, with participants from across the world: the First Dicty World Race. The genetically modified cells combined speed with intelligence and managed to cross the finish line in first place, after having traversed a mini-maze. The entertaining race also had a serious scientific aim.
- From the shadows. The University of Groningen owns a great deal of art. Wherever you are in the University buildings, whichever office you enter, on every landing and in every courtyard, you will come across art. Many of these works of art are now on show in the University Museum. It is beautiful, special or simply interesting art that has come 'From the shadows'.
Each episode of the biweekly online video magazine Unifocus includes three items related to the University of Groningen, in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
