AG Architecten to design the renovations for the University of Groningen Library
Anouk Vermeulen from AG Architecten will make draft designs for the forthcoming renovation of the University Library. The new library will have more workstations and a brand new entrance with a café. Anew interior design will make the reading rooms more efficient and spacious. In addition, the firm will offer advice on suitable furniture and the types of materials and colour scheme that should be used.

Delighted with the architect’s ideas
Marjolein Nieboer, Director of the Library, is delighted with the choice of architect. ‘We think that AG Architecten is the perfect party for transforming the University Library into a modern and pleasant study environment. They came up with fabulous ideas for involving the staff and students in preparing the Library for future.’
Working out the details of the Master Plan
Rob Hendriks from DAAD Architects delivered the Master Plan with the contours of the renovation in January. AG Architecten will now use this renovation plan to create room for more workstations in a pleasant, modern environment, thereby preparing the building for a long and sustainable future.
Starting on the ground floor
Vermeulen will start working on the first designs to be used on every floor immediately. She will make detailed designs for the colour schemes and materials. Students and staff will be involved in this part of the process. The actual renovation work will start with the ground floor in September 2014. It will be phased over several years to minimize inconvenience and ensure that the Library and its collections remain as accessible as possible.
