New Unifocus: Understanding pneumococci; an embrace in a grave; a portrait of prof. Kapteyn

The new Unifocus, the video magazine of the University of Groningen, is online.

This week:

  • Understanding pneumococci. Jan-Willem Veening received three prestigious grants in 2013. He was chosen to participate in the ‘EMBO Young Investigators Programme’, and was awarded Vidi and ERC grants. Veening will use these to pursue his current ground-breaking research.
  • Embracing for centuries on end. Last summer, Sofia Voutsaki, professor of Greek archaeology, found a grave containing a man and a woman in an embrace.
  • For Infinity. Jan Cornelius Kapteyn. A portrait of Professor Kapteyn, 'the true father of Dutch astronomy'.

Each episode of the weekly online video magazine Unifocus includes three items related to the University of Groningen, in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
