Christian Zuidema Lecturer of the Year

Christian Zuidema, Assistant Professor of Spatial Planning, has won the Jury Prize in the 2013 Lecturer of the Year Elections. He also won the Audience Award. Hans Burgerhof, lecturer in Medical Statistics, received most of the internet votes and thus won the Web Award.
According to the jury, Zuidema’s mini lecture was very relevant. ‘He grabs his audience by the throat with crucial questions, to which he also suggests solutions. Zuidema demonstrates a keen awareness of politics and landscape’, said jury chair Gerry Wakker. In his lecture, Zuidema argued that energy transition in the Netherlands can only be successful if sufficient attention is paid to local situations. Zuidema’s prize consists of a work of art and an envelope containing EUR 7,500. In addition, he will be invited to develop and teach a course unit at the Honours College.
Burgerhof, the winner of the Web Award, received an e-reader. In his mini lecture he presented his own research into the importance of video support in statistics teaching to first-year students of Medicine.
