Title:
From Healthcare Imaging to Shape Interpretation. A survey over imaging and
shape processing techniques with their applications.
Abstract:
Several imaging techniques such as MRI or Ultrasound allow physicians to look inside the human body, extracting the organ shapes either statically or dynamically. Each of these techniques has its own advantages and limitations when it comes to resolution (spatial and temporal), invasiveness and cost. These properties define their usage context for different diagnostic and/or treatment purposes. Following the acquisition step, we aim at interpreting the extracted shapes. We apply novel skeletonization techniques which enable us to understand shapes from a medial domain perspective. In this skeleton domain, we use its unique properties to extract meaningful information to the end user. A survey over imaging techniques is presented followed by the challenges faced in shape analysis.
