Express yourself – Understand the world
The University of Groningen Language Centre celebrates its 25th anniversary at the end of November. Under the title Express yourself – Understand the world, an international business seminar is being organized on Friday 29 November.
Experts from academia and the business world will exchange knowledge and experience with attendees. The guest lectures will be given by Prof. Fons van de Vijver, cross-cultural psychologist at Tilburg University and six speakers from northern Netherlands companies that operate internationally. The pitfalls and successes of international negotiation and cooperation will be highlighted from the viewpoint of actual practice and research. The Language Centre will also be presenting its up-to-date language training methods.
Examples include language training through new media and the Intercultural Effectiveness Training (IET) developed by cross-cultural psychologist Prof. J.P. van Oudenhoven of the University of Groningen.
Specialized expertise centre
The Language Centre of the University of Groningen has been a specialist in and facilitator of internationalization inside and outside the University for 25 years. Its expertise ranges from teaching Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) to foreigners to language and communication training for those going elsewhere to work or study. The Language Centre has grown into the most specialized expertise centre for language and cultural training in the north of the Netherlands riding the wave of internationalization in higher education. Its clients include educational institutions, businesses, government institutions and private individuals. Director of the Language Centre Anje Dijk: ‘Effective language teaching takes the environment in which you will use the language into account and helps you to develop the competences you will need to communicate effectively. We teach people the things they need and which they can apply immediately. That is what drives and inspires us, for 25 years and counting.’Last modified: | 13 March 2020 02.14 a.m. |
