Hans de Vries will receive the 2013 Paul Rylander award from the Organic Reactions Catalysis Society (ORCS)

25 October 2013

Dr. Johannes G. de Vries has been awarded the 2013 Paul N. Rylander Award for significant contributions to the use of catalysis in organic reactions. Dr. de Vries is the founder of the homogeneous catalysis group at DSM and a key player in promoting its industrial use in bulk and fine chemicals. Dr. de Vries has made seminal contributions in several areas that are not only of industrial relevance, but also constitute important fundamental innovations from a scientific point of view. These areas include Heck coupling reactions, enantioseleltive hydrogenation, combined use of enzymatic and organometallic catalysts, and chemicals from renewable resources. During his career, Dr. de Vries has contributed to more than 175 papers. Dr. de Vries is currently the Principal Scientist in Homogeneous Catalysis at DSM Innovative Synthesis, and also a part-time Professor at the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry at the University of Groningen.
