Inaugural Speech Barbara Bakker

22 October 2013

On the 22nd of October Barbara Bakker will give her inaugural speech, entitled: Modellen voor jong en oud.

Barbara Bakker will introduce her field of Medical Systems Biology for a broad audience and discuss ongoing research on inborn metabolic diseases and ageing biology. In the end it is one integrated metabolic system that we need to understand. Inborn mutations, diet and age-related damage are different perturbations to this system which can teach us how metabolism works. To capture the complexity of metabolic regulation, computer models are a powerful tool. A better understanding should help solving important questions with respect to both inborn and age-related metabolic diseases.
