Title:
Machine Learning in Developing-World Medicine
Abstract:
Machine learning is useful in developing-world medicine both at the individual level (to compensate for a shortage of experts to carry out diagnostic tests), and at the population level (to predict the spread of infectious disease). In this talk, I will describe work on automated diagnosis of malaria with computer vision, spatiotemporal modeling of disease spread in Uganda using satellite data, and how the uncertainties in these diagnosis and mapping tasks can be modeled jointly in order to improve the accuracy of both.
