Title: "From invariant theory to meromorphic automorphic forms and vice versa."

Abstract:

A Riemann surface of genus one is given up to isomorphism by a smooth
cubic curve up to a projective linear transformation, but also by a point in the
upper half plane up to a modular transformation. This fact is at the origin of one
of the highlights of 19th century mathematics, namely the identification of the
invariant theory of cubic forms in three variables with the theory of automorphic
forms in one variable.
In recent yearssome intrigueing higher dimensional analogues of this identification
have been found. We shall review some of these.

Colloquium coordinators are Prof.dr. A.C.D. van Enter (e-mail : A.C.D.van.Enter@rug.nl) and

Dr. A.V. Kiselev (e-mail: a.v.kiselev rug.nl)
